Feel good success story with Rogz
If you’ve had a pet in your life, you would be familiar with the brand name Rogz.
Rogz was founded in 1995 by two proudly South African locals on the beachfront in Cape Town. They are now a globally recognised brand that designs, manufactures, and distributes pet gear to over 90 countries. Rogz pet gear is safe and trusted, connecting humans to their pets with a variety of functional and high-quality products.
But did you know that they have a non-profit organisation, Rogz Academy? Rogz academy aims to empower local communities in the spirit of ubuntu through Education, Youth Development and Nutrition for a sustainable future together.
Rogz co-founder Paul’s passion for nature and in particular urban gardens, resulted in the creation of the Rogz urban farm in 2013. By changing the pavements outside the Rogz factories in Omuramba business park, from messy, overgrown foliage into rows of fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit trees, its goal was to harvest these veggies and fruit for all Roggerz at RWHQ and feed their families and community.
Subsequently, with the help of the farmers at Rogz, a veggie garden was established at Sophakama Primary in Dunoon and produce was regularly harvested to feed the children so that they could study with full stomachs. In 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated the food crisis in South Africa and all Government schools were closed, Rogz Academy harvested all the vegetables from the Rogz urban farm and donated them to Boost Africa Foundation’s soup kitchen which was helping to feed vulnerable communities in Dunoon and Joe Slovo. Vegetables were also donated to Stone Dragon soup initiative, distributing much-needed soup in Khayelitsha township, as well as to vulnerable communities in Atlantis.
The Rogz urban farm has extended its space and more pavements have been changed into vegetable gardens. We got in touch with the Rogz team in April this year and have donated Bio Ocean and Bio Rock to improve the quality of the soil. Because in the end, healthy soil ensures good quality and nutritious produce. We are proud to say this is an ongoing donation and we are looking forward to seeing the urban farm flourish!
Not only do we assist in growing quality vegetables, but we also assist in growing communities. Stay tuned for more updates from the Rogz urban farm.
