This is our story (2015 – 2025)

At the beginning of 2015, we found ourselves without a brand name and without trademarked products registered as fertilisers.  The ‘we’ in this story are the Herholdt family from Philadelphia and the Runkel family from Durbanville.  The Herholdt family had a manufacturing facility near Philadelphia, while the Runkel family had a distribution warehouse in Stikland.

Despite this challenge, we had three key assets that enabled us to turn our dream of starting a new brand into reality:

Selecting the perfect name for our company

Operating near South Africa’s West Coast, we found it fitting to name our brand Atlantic Fertilisers—a name that reflects the natural, living richness of the ocean, just like our organic products.

From the start, we established three core organic product ranges:

• Bio Ganic – Biological + Organic, Composted, pelletised chicken manure
• Bio Rock – Bio Ganic with added Rock Phosphate, also known as Root Builder
• Bio Ocean – Bio Ganic with added Kelp and Fishmeal

Expanding our product range:

Over time, we expanded our offerings with Bio Enrich, a range of pelletised chicken manure blends enriched with synthetic fertilisers for specialised crop applications. Later, we introduced a water-soluble range of synthetic blends, completing our fertilisation solutions for various plant needs.

This year—marks our tenth anniversary (2025)
